Description

Welcome to the first IMAS Data Mapping workshop!

This meeting aims to bring together people working on data-mapping in IMAS and experts in fusion experimental data for different devices and multi-machines databases (e.g. ITPA's). If you are either interested in participating in IMAS data-mapping activities for a given device, or want to provide guidance or support for such activities, please join and be part of this new community.

Note: the meeting was initially planned and announced for January 27-29, but is now rescheduled to mid March 16-20 (extended from the initially planned 17-19) to avoid a clash with ITPA DivSOL. Please be also aware that this will be the week right after the OSSFE conference, so it may give you the opportunity to combine both trips in case you are travelling from far abroad.

Topics

Besides the expected improvements and extensions of existing data mappings for given devices or data sources, this meeting has a few  transversal topics and objectives:

  • Data-mapping syntax: Review existing practices; converge on a draft unified data syntax; identify mapping priorities and use-cases;
  • Open-access: Promote and share version-controlled and open-access mapping recipes; identify examples of mapped data that could be shared for testing and verification purposes;
  • Verification: Test and verify mapped data if available; discuss best practices for such verification efforts; identify suitable codes interfaced to IMAS which could support this effort;
  • AI/LLM support for data mapping: Examples and requirements to benefit from AI supported data mapping.

Practical organization

This event will be held at the ITER Organization HQ and will consist of a 3 to 5-day hands-on workshop. It will contain only a few invited and highly relevant presentations and tutorials, while the rest of the time will be dedicated to topical discussions, collaboration planning, and practical hands-on working sessions.

As this is by essence a collaborative project, participants must commit to promote open-source solutions and agree that all the materials and notes from the meeting will be made openly accessible on  https://github.com/iterorganization/IMAS-Data-Mapping

Remote participation will be possible, but onsite presence is highly recommended for having more productive hands-on working sessions. Note that you are also welcome to extend your visit (ahead or after the meeting).

Registration

Registration is mandatory and now open here. Please fill this form before December 17th. Don't hesitate to share this page widely and reach-out to other colleagues who might be interested.
